(2005) Directed by Robert Schwentke and produced by Brian Grazer, Flightplan is a mystery/thriller starring Jodie Foster and Sean Bean amongst others. It's not the best thriller I've ever seen but it was entertaining none the less. Foster is on form as always and despite some wooden acting by a few of the remaining cast members the plot moves along at a fair old clip. Because all the action takes place on a plane flying from Germany to the US a sense of claustrophobia pervades which ramps up the tension. There's a nice twist towards the end, however the writers introduced it a little prematurely in my opinion leaving the plot to flop around like a landed fish for the remainder of the film.

Just back from watching the new Total Recall

Well its pretty good - not sure how faithful to the Philip K Dick story it inspires - but its a much better film than Arnie's one was.

The Hunger Games [Blu-ray]

Really surprisingly excellent action drama set in a post-apocalyptic North America. I was all set to write this off as another shallow teen vehicle, but I found myself well and truly drawn in. I like that the story throws you wholesale into the world, assuming full acceptance of the grusome central idea without attempting much back-story. This heightens the shock value. Very well played by the whole cast and Jennifer Lawrence was a good choice as a striking but not beautiful natural survivor.

If it's thought provoking I usually rate a film as good. This one sets up a future that is repugnant, rather like Starship Troopers, but makes you think about it.

The lovely end credit song by the Civil Wars is a bonus.

Sounds interesting. We are always been asked in the bookshop - I work in - for this series of books by both teenagers and adults. I will check it out when it becomes cheaper.

Now I'm not sure about this, as I'm not sure how it compares to the book (as I haven't read it ). But which is closer to the original...

After all, the remake has zero mention of Mars, it's all based on Earth

Well after the film I mentioned last night I watched The Day The Earth Stood Still, the 2003 version with Mr Wooden - Keanu Reaves Perfect as an alien...


Time for another wooden actor, Ben Affleck, fun film though
