Bargains on ebay?

The timescale can vary a bit for delivery from the far east, but I've just taken delivery of a TVC pre-amp from China that took a mere week to arrive from the purchase date. Probably the quickest of the dozens of items I've had from the oriental countries.

It was a Mei Xing MC-9 and a bit of a bargain at £293. He has one left on eBay!

Thought it looked familiar - and then I saw who the seller was. He also has some interesting stuff; some of which is quite pricey. Some interesting analogue bits.

Interested in your opinions of it.

Its very lucid with no nasties. An interesting listen. Slightly less weighty than my regular Forte Model 2, but most pre-amp don't sound as punchy as that anyway. On a par with my VTL Deluxe I'd say. I'll try it with the rest of my selection of power-amps in due course. Its very well finished (I haven't looked inside) and heavier than you'd expect. I haven't felt like using another pre-amp since I installed it, so it must be pretty good. A bargain at the asking price in my opinion.

Still putting together a good quality no frills vintage-ish system that i'll be using for good as my main system.

I won a pair of Akai 'GXC-706D' cassette decks circa 1979, a silver one last week as a spare if need be (£50.00) but will reside in the spare room in a cassette based system & tonight a mint still unused Black one (£35.00) for the main system.. I know they are 2 head machines but that makes no difference to me as i have fond memories of how good they sounded. Just need to sort an amp out now..

Thanks Mark but apart from i used to own one these Akai machines way back when, the whole point of the exersize is to build the new system around components i used to own.. besides that Techy doesnt have needle VU's..

It's the head thing & you mentioned it
