I have a very good friend of mine who wears watches well into five and sometimes six figures. He always takes hem off at work and puts hem on his desk not to prevent damaging them but so that he doesn't become a slave to time. I have thought about this and realise that I use a watch, by and large, as a tool. Something I suppose it is really.
The best part of owning a watch and being able to quickly tell the time for me is that I can calculate if I am going to make the early, or the late train home.
Tomorrow is already decided - it's the late train on a Friday night

If I had friends who had watches worth five and six figure sums, that’s multiples of of ten thousand and one hundred thousand if my math is correct, who still went to work I would be awfully tempted to rip the piss out of them.
Does he have a body guard by any chance?

I really dislike it when others are late and don't even bother to acknowledge it. Very rude IMHO
    I hear you.

Btw, did you watch the cycling the other day, on Portsmouth road?

I've just realised that I've never actually bought a watch for myself - they've always been presents. Cheap ones, mind.

    Both mine were gifts Joe.
I keep one for sentimental reasons. I think it's older than I am and definitely a lot prettier.
The other is the only watch I know off that can survive being driven over by a one and three quarter ton 4X4.

My watches tend to come a cropper. When I was a nipper, I had several Timex watches for Christmas. Invariably by Easter they'd have fallen off my wrist and smashed in the school playground. Then for my 16th birthday, I got a 'proper' watch with a 'gold' face and metal strap. I overwound that one. Then I got a digital Casio watch that looked horrible but kept going for years till the strap broke and the watch itself fell down a drain. The watch before my current one was never the same after going through a 50 degree wash.

Touch wood, my Swiss railway watch is still going strong after 8 years.
