Never heard one yet that's as good as valves to my ears. Some of Nelson Pass' designs sound rather good though.

Ah, ok I'll try that. I guess my point was that I don't expect there to be much difference between the Ayre as a transport and the Pioneer. My experience with my previous Blu-ray player was that it was a fine transport.

So... no-one else supports the secondary use for LEDs to show sample rate/bit width idea? This isn't the ground-swell of 'I want it too' that I'd hoped for if I'm to pursuade Stan

Since I've not owned any of Stan's products before, actually just became aware of them while researching new DACs I'd be reluctant to ask him to change anything but I will say that on my DACMagic I do glance at it quite often to see what the sample rate is that is playing. Sometimes I think something sounds especially good and I look over to see if it's a high res flac or whatever.

Perhaps one LED could be fitted that changes colour according to bitrate being fed in a la Chord.

Gets my vote Martin - I don't think you can have too much information, given that the front panel is not crowded with dials and switches so no chance of an overload.

    My System:
Power: Belkin PF40, Custom.hifi.cables Hydra and DC PSUs.
Sources: Self built HTPC with Xonar ST sound card, NAD T585 multi disc player, Sony BDP-S350, Squeezebox Touch, Techncs SL1210 (mod'd) + Nagaoka MP30, Thomson Sky HD box.
    Amps etc.: 2 x Mini-T amps, MF-X10D Valve buffer clone, StanDAC 7520/Caiman (mod'd).
Speakers: Mission 774s with added super tweeters
Cables: best I can afford and likely to change except Homar's RF attenuated co-ax's and Mark Grant USB and HDMI cables. I also like silver i/cs and speaker cable.

I was suggesting a firmware upgrade without change to the hardware. Otherwise it would never fly.
