Guess I'll have to get my soldering iron and silver solder out.
Can you do super high temps ? (Novice solderer speaks)

Not sure, Mike, but I can turn my temperature controlled soldering iron to max and that definitely melts my silver solder, so it's worth a shot.

I'm listening to the SPD-4 through my valve setup tonight which is

    Radford pre/power amp
    Belkin silver interconnects
    Usual 1210 setup
Heavily modified celestion ditton 15XR speakers
    Nordost SPM Reference speaker cable

OMG! Its the first time that the celestions have thrown a sound stage wider than the speakers themselves, EVER! The smaller speakers have enabled me to make some sense of the bass, it's even more well defined and taught than the ATC's which leaves me thinking they are reacting with my room and giving me some bass bloom Vocals are slap bang in the middle of the speakers. This cable just gets better and better. I think there will be even more to be had when I get my celestion 44's set up.

Sounds good, dude. It'll be very interesting to hear what my own SPD-4 does when it arrives. What will you do, however, if the 423.5 Phono Litz (special) whips its ass?

Can I ask Marco and Andy - what is the spec of your SPD-4 cables? I know you've asked for silver rather than copper strands but what about the connectors? Are they standard or spec'd by you?

Nothing! I'm very happy with it at the moment I think the next round of mods will come with the tone arm being modified to balanced output and then seeing what I can do with the silver core sut, psiibly changing that to balanced output (and saving a few grand) and maybe getting some solid silver output sorted out rather than the silver plated stuff that's on it at the moment

Martin, I've got eichmann silver bullets on the RCA end and furutech din on the other end.

Thanks, Andy. Is that standard for the SPD-4 or special? I can't get to grips with what is standard - you see, if the cable is different and also the connectors, it's not really an SPD-4 any more.

    Hi Martin,

No, Andy's cable is a special. Jannis (currently, anyway) doesn't make any cables with Furutech and Eichmann connectors on them as standard.

The SPD-4 I'm getting will have stock connectors on it, as the idea is to compare it against my 423.5 Phono Litz (with the same stock connectors), which you heard in your system, and then see which is best, by judging only the wire (conductor) used on both cables, I.E. silver Litz, vs. solid-silver.

Connectors aside, I wanted to know which actual cable I preferred. Once I make that decision, I will then have the cable/wire of my choice, fitted with the Furutech and Eichmanns, given that I already know what they do (or if it's the special 423.5 Phono Litz, which I'm using now, that wins, then I'll simply keep that and send the other cables back to Yannis), and it'll be job done!

    Marco.
