I'd like to create that style of floor, only with different types of Welsh slate, and work the look of the units into that, without the effect being old-fashioned. There's defo two types of retro: cool and very naff.

I'll be looking for some early 1960s wall-mounted speakers (something covered in typical 1960s grille fabric) to put in the kitchen, which I can pump sounds into from the system upstairs.

True linoleum is very expensive, it is compressed cork and linseed oul. It is terrific stuff but you will not find it in white! The best stuff for a kitchen IMO is terrazo but that ain't cheap either.The best though.
The kitchen units have - from experience - the worst fit and finish in the world. Surface mount hinges and beech wooden runners on the drawers

It used Peerless drivers I think, including a 5" woofer in a bass reflection configuration.
If you don't like those, you can get vintage grille cloth to cover a modern frame - guitar amp and vintage radio restorers are good sources for that stuff. And there's this guy too.

There are vintage bookshelf speakers, which I believe Adam Smith owns, or likes, that have a kind of mottled black/grey grille cloth... I forget which ones they are, but those are exactly what I had in mind, although the red Tandbergs have thrown me a curved ball!
