Just finished watching 'Eroica' on BBC4.

A dramatic reconstruction of the very first rehearsal of Beethoven's 3rd symphony (The 'Eroica'). I was particularly impressed by the orchestra, a French ensemble called 'Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique', playing on period instruments and conducted by John Elliot Gardener.

'Eroica' does for Beethoven what 'Amadeus' did for Mozart. Absolutely brilliant, and one of the finest things I've seen on BBC4 for a long time.

It's being repeated at 00:15, so go and programme your recorders NOW.

"The story of the British love of blues music from the 1950s to the early 70s. Contributiors include Keith Richards, Bill Wyman, Mick Fleetwood and Paul Jones."

Been shown a couple of times before, but well worth a repeat viewing.

"A 1962 film by director Ken Russell profiling composer Edward Elgar. The programme features dramatic reconstructions of events from Elgar's life and was originally aired as the 100th edition of the Monitor documentary series."

(This was the first of Russell's composer biopics. This along with his biopic on the life of Delius: 'Song of Summer' are, in my opinion, amongst his best and most sympathetic. His later treatment of composers were, again in my opinion, over-the-top 'hatchet' jobs.)

Good bit of programming I thought. Especially liked the one on Ronnie Scott's Club. Brought back happy memories of my visits there in the early 70s .
