Yesterday, just before the end of the Floyd 'fest' on BBC4, I switched over to BBC2 to watch 'The Draughtsman's Contract' , a film by director Peter Greenaway

Greenaway, whose films are always wierd, disturbing, thoughtful and beautifully filmed. I've seen most of them, and they are always worth watching:

I'm a big Greenaway fan. Drowning By Numbers is my favourite, with the Draughtman's Contract a close second. It truly is a beautiful film. The Cook, The Thief is a startling and disturbing film, a bit Tarantino if I'm honest! I think he became a little too 'knowing' by the time he made that one... Nyman's music always works so well in the context of a film, more so than when abstracted into a standalone musical release.

Beautifully shot and beautifully restored. A classic of world cinema.

I can't Martin, though I did see Giselle there in the late '80s.

Fantastic place, isn't it? For me, it was the being there that counted rather than that distinctly odd ballet.

Yes it is. I'm not big on classical ballet (prefer modern works), but the sense of occasion and ,as you say, 'being there' made it a 'must do'.

By the way, going on the first blu ray i watched yesterday of The Phantom Menace, these BD issues should be superb! I guess the real test will be when i watch the first of the original trilogy though (A New Hope)
