I've tried adding absorbing materials but I prefer the live sound of the room, I think it's the OB reflections that give such a realistic experience, too much absorption make them sound like box speaker, which is ok, but not the point.

There is a big (8ft x 4ft) green baize covered notice board opposite the speakers, this seems to work well, not that the colour will make any difference. I've found that the area behind the speakers needs to be very live. Along one side of the room I have all my CDs and the records go half the length of the room. I feel I have the LEDE right, certainly it's critical to get right, the most important are with OBs being what's behind them and their distance from the rear wall.

If you gently tone down any reflections at all, do it at the listening position rather than the speaker end, unless the sound takes off there. This is more like sitting in an audience position at a venue and sounds more natural than damping out the speaker end of the room only.

The big dem room at KJ had the wall behind the speakers almost totally deadened and the only speakers which really benefitted from this are the ML Electrostatic hybrids, which sounded unusually good there. Everything else sounded a bit muted to me..

I started to follow the advice about absorbion behind the speakers and also found it took the life out of the sound.

I prefer a live room, wooden floor with a rug and some treatment at first reflections and rear corners, though I have room openings at either side of both speakers.

I made open treatments either side of the listening position with a bale of insulation covered in black cotton fabric and set it behind a screen to give both camouflage and diffusion. Also made similar insulation pads behind the canvas pictures.

Can't believe how bad the leather settee is though - won't do that again.

My Bastanis Atlas open baffle speakers have finally been re-housed in some better wood. This was a joint project with Vic of Trans-Fi fame, the wood was CNC cut then lacquered. I've christened them 88s, my son calls them 2 Fat Ladies after the bingo call. Actually I'd prefer slightly bigger hips but I'm straying from hi-fi....

Its truly amazing! Great work Clive! Keep up the good work. You can place some canvas pictures to improve the look of your room. Thanks for sharing with us.

just looked at your system great! you have obviously put loads of time into obtaining a great sound. The reason for this contact is to ask your opinion of the Trans-Fi arm assy. I am considering ordering the T3 Pro which embodies all the latest mods. This is completely new territory for me although everything about it seems right , can you please give your opinions of its performance. Thanks
