Haha! Not quite so retro as that! Having recently re-visited the Decca cartridges, I have become fascinated by these unique designs.It looks like one step up from a thorn needle
This particular sample was of the Mk. III design of the early 1960s. Fitted with an elliptical stylus, I was interested in comparing it with the Mk. IV design I have recently obtained for a fellow AoS member.
It can only be used with Decca's own arm but that arrangement has audio benefits of its own. But I was only prepared to pay £80 maximum.

These are Mk II & III cartridges I still have. Last time I used one was over 10 years ago. As I remember they were very good but I prefer the EMT cartridges more.

Yes I know about the SME D2 and D3 adaptors, but I already have a Decca ffss Mk. I 'Super' arm I can use.
Whilst I have been delighted to rediscover the Mk. V and Mk. VI Deccas and will from now on always have one set up and ready to use, I'm not going to abandon my first love: the EMT TSD15 (with spherical tip).

I picked up a mint Pioneer SX950 off fleabay a few months ago for £65 and I have to say its a thing of pure beauty. Just looking at it makes me come over all unnecessary.
It has the build quality and feel of of a heavy thing that feels rather good. The tune wheel spins forever and all the buttons are nice and clunky. It makes me yearn for meters again.
I hooked it up to an outdoor radio ariel and the sound through a pair of MC2's is very pleasing indeed.
An added bonus is also that the glow at night from the dial keeps away the boogeyman...

I know you've tried one before but maybe your ears were having an off day.
I know it's subjective and down to personal tastes but a TSD15 is at least to my ears (and it seems Barry's) preferable to a Decca cart. I found the Deccas a little fatiguing compared to EMT carts.
