Is that a Clavis strapped to the SME V on the blue Techy? It's one of the few Lyras I like!

Interesting putting a Frog on a Jelco.... Not sure that's a combo I'd have gone for. Have you tried the Frog on the SME V? That should work really well.

You need to summarise your thoughts on the Techies soon. I'll be interested to know what your thoughts are on the subject. Just checking, you've got an MN bearing, haven't you?

Yes its a very low hours Clavis. Nice when you get it right but its an awkward customer that really sounds best using a MM stage and a quality SUT ime.

I think you are right about the Frog (yes sounds great on my Graham and on the SME), though its not too bad on it. I have a heavy Ortofon 7500 that should work quite well on the Jelco. Yes there is a Mike New bearing in the equation

The Frog works really well on the SME V - I've heard that combo, and it's rather good! Loads of detail and finesse.

The Jelco only really comes into its own with high-quality MMs (like the current Nagaokas), or ideally, low-compliance MCs, such a the DL-103, SPU, EMT, etc. You also need to hear it with a top-notch aftermarket headshell fitted, such as the Oyaide, or the high-mass Ortofons and Audio Technicas, which are available.

That makes a massive difference! The stock headshell is quite poor, IMO, and isn't representative of the superlative engineering of the rest of the arm.

So which T/T has been given the (huge) advantage of the MN bearing?

I am not sure I agree entirely re the Jelco. It has sounded pretty good with a couple of the MC's I own...not the Clavis though. The VDH Frog is a Gold which is very tasty indeed.

If I start messing with head shells this will never get done + the cost is a tad high for the ones you mention. I do have a few Sumiko's though; not tried those yet.

The blue deck has the MN bearing.
