I think they will be, but I need to get them home and experiment a bit - DSJR suggests 12-14" (hence why I said the 16" ones may be a bit high, but rude not to try at 99p!) - the complication is that we need new sofas, so that will change the goalposts anyway - so will probably hang on until that is sorted for a final solution - judicious use of Yellow Pages in the meantime!

Nice move. Open-frame stands are ultimately the way to go with classic Spendors and Harbeths. High-mass is not the best route to optimise the performance of these designs. Light but rigid is the wayCheers Marco.
They come with the standard Spendor ones, although the previous (original) owner has removed the castors and modified them for spikes instead. I've won a pair of 16" target stands for 99p off ebay, which might be a little bit too tall, but if I get on with the speakers I will probably get a set of Something Solid open frame jobbies.

Spot the difference... The AE's are consigned to the dining room, and the SP1s are in situ. (My wife didn't notice, until I pointed them out, and then proclaimed "I'm not having those in my living room, they look like something from the 70's or 80's!!" ...says the woman who has just chosen the most 70's floral design for the living room you could ever dream up!)

They were described as "one owner from new" and "Very Good Condition" - I would say they are better than that - a couple of tiny, tiny nicks on the rear edges of the veneer, but other than that they really are mint.
The previous owner converted the stands from castors to spikes, and as luck would have it, they are M8 thread, so the feet I bought for the AE's screwed right in. That said, the stands are probably a little too short, though not by as much as I thought they would be. Will try the 16" ones tomorrow.
I've not really had much chance to listen, and certainly not at a decent level, but so far I can certainly say that I am not disappointed. I will probably write a more comprehensive review after living with them for a while, but let's just say that I am a very happy bunny, and have just realised that up until now, I didn't really have a hi-fi, did I?

To be fair I'm using a bit of dramatic licence, she did immediately follow up her comment with "if it makes you happy that's fine" so I think all will be well. She did even concede they sounded rather good.
Just spinning some Art of Noise - even at low level, WOW! This is going to make me have to eat my words about all those hifi hyperboles I'm always so dismissive of!
