Seems you're not the only vintage enthusiast! The problem with old decks like the Telefunken or, say, the Studer C37 is that many spares are hard to come by and when they do, are snapped up by well-heeled enthusiasts. Perhaps your Japanese friend bought them?

The lower the price something goes for on ebay the less the charges (ebay charges) so a lot tend to put up their postage costs as these are not charged (if they can & depending on what section it's in)
It's the sellers way of maxing the money from the auction...
I'd be slightly pi***d off as well.
