That's were good IMO. They were an imprint of Taiyo Yuden who's archive CD's were the toast of Deadheads and live show traders for years

Quality consistency was pretty variable, though, in my experience.That's were good IMO. They were an imprint of Taiyo Yuden who's archive CD's were the toast of Deadheads and live show traders for years
'Thats' came onto the tape market quite late, if I remember, where tape formulation quality was already on the decline, compared to the heyday of the late 70s/early 80s, where some of the stuff from TDK, for example, was truly exceptional...

Aye. Nothing compares to my NOS Maxell XL I high output cobalt formulation sometimes tagged Type III, but really a hybrid Type I / Type II which gives metal like performance but with a slightly less hard edged sound versus Type IV - quite a rare gem, IMO.
I always liked BASF chrome and found it worked better than metal on my Marantz portable deck. That was my primary source when I worked out in Germany for a while, I still have it somewhere.
