I'm Lawrence.
San Martin are usually a lot more expensive than many Seiko watches - but to answer the question. Yes, genuine Seiko movements in the majority of third party watches, Seiko have a special division selling their movements for exactly this purpose, although of course fakes are used in some cheaper watches, San Martin not though!

Casio Quartz today, £5 on Vinted (boxed with spare links) - not an expensive watch anyway, but was cheap because the clasp had lots of scratches. After wearing it a few times the “scratches” have disappeared!

Wouldn't say that's strictly true. San Martin are 'high end' Ali Express and seem to compare price wise with Seiko but I think in a lot of cases you get a better watch for the same money. I haven't bought any Seikos for some time but they've been criticised for the quality of their cheaper watches. Also Seiko have a habit of withdrawing a model then re-introducing something very similar a year or two later at twice the price of the original.
