Indeed, but some countries have a more defined food culture than others. The UK has virtually no defined food culture, which is why chicken tikka masala tops the charts as the Brits No1 favourite food!

This is what AI has to say about English food culture:

"England's food culture is a dynamic blend of deep-rooted, comforting traditions, and a highly globalised, sponge-like adaptability. Historically misunderstood as bland, modern English cuisine is defined by its seasonality, farm-to-table pub culture, and a love for bold, multicultural flavours inherited from centuries of global trade and immigration."

I'm sure this would apply to all of the UK, which I reckon is probably the most diverse nation in the world when it comes to food, thanks to our welcoming nature and open-mindedness. Just about any European or eastern dishes (or their ingredients) could be found pretty much anywhere in this country. But you try to get a steak pudding in Milan, I bet you'd struggle.

So I would argue that we* do have a defined food culture, I would define it as adventurous and eclectic, unlike our European cousins.

*When I say we, I mean everyone else. I'm a bit picky about foreign food

Looks very tasty Roy. They do seem to look after you, I wouldn't mind a holiday there myself And I know Anita would be up for that too. We didn't go anywhere this year, so maybe next year...

Ha ha! I watched that historically accurate series ‘The Last Kingdom’. That clearly showed that Anglo Saxons dined exclusively on apples. In contrast, the Vikings only ate meat on the bone. Top culinary heritage!

That might be what it says on a computer search, but it's not reflected in reality. When I go out for meals in this country I'm often disappointed and find the food bland when comparing it with what I eat at home. I'm relating my experience, not relying on AI. I do realise though that Del is an exceptional cook.

The reason why you wouldn't get a steak pudding in Milan is because Italians love eating their own food and don't feel the need to have it adulterated by external influences. It's mostly the same throughout Europe.

Plus, look at all the wonderful seafood that regularly gets shipped to Spain from the UK because the Brits don't like it or don't know what to do with it. If you had a proper food culture, you'd be embracing your natural produce and eating all the wonderful langoustines and lobsters that the Spanish (and others) are very grateful for!
