    Default Hello everyone

    Hi all,

I’ve been into hi-fi for quite a while, with a particular interest in older professional and vintage loudspeakers.
I’m especially interested in Tannoy, Altec and JBL, and own some hi-fi speakers and PA gear from these brands.

I’m also into classic broadcast and pro-audio equipment, especially older mixers and amplifiers.
I also enjoy soldering, basic servicing and generally tinkering with older gear.

I mostly listen on a Thorens, but I have several Technics SL-1200/1210s as well. I’m interested in modifying the Technics decks, and one of my SL-1210s has an armboard made by Speedy Steve here on AoS. For daily use I mainly run Shure V15 and Stanton/Pickering cartridges, with different styli for home listening, broadcasting and playing records out.

Looking forward to being part of the forum.

    Cheers,
    JW

Hi Julian. Hope you enjoy being here!

Many members share similar tastes in equipment, so there should be plenty to chat about.

    Morning JW,

Welcome aboard – and what a fantastic introduction!

I have to say, I'm more than a little envious of your collection. Tannoy, Altec, JBL – that's some serious heritage gear. And a Thorens and multiple SL-1200s? You're clearly a man who appreciates the classics.

I'm afraid I'm at the opposite end of the spectrum – I've just gone modern with a Rega and Wharfedales, and I'm still learning how to use a streaming app without swearing at it. But I have a huge respect for anyone who can solder, service, and tinker with the old stuff. I can barely change a fuse without calling for backup.

Speedy Steve's armboards are legendary around here, so you're in good company already. I'd love to hear more about your modded Technics – and what you're listening to on that Shure V15.

Make yourself at home. This lot are a friendly bunch, even if they do talk about cables far too much.
