What a sat nav can tell you (and a map can't) is shortest route/fastest route/most economical route, also advance warnings of traffic hold ups. Much as I like maps, there's no denying the practicality of sat nav.
With the mention of maps, I'm minded of the 'relief' maps our school would have hanging on the wall. Nice and lumpy. I wonder if they are still being made/sold? I think I'd like one
