This has been a favourite of mine for years, but there is a particular sound on the first and last songs which almost ruined it for me. Well now, it's still present and still an irritating squawk, but not fingernails-down-blackboard bad. The last song (Horse Tears) is just beautiful, and no longer marred by that horrible artefact. Happy bunny

Had to start off with this one as today is...



New Speaker Day! well new to me anyway. They've spent two weeks in the back of my van while I agonised over what to do about the yet-to-be outgoing speakers and all the new oversize packaging. So that's 14 days of up and down the M6, over countless potholes, all the while they've had to share vanspace with all my tools. There's been a dark thought that's niggled at the back of my mind, whether or not they'll come out of this ordeal intact. I won't know until I get them unpacked. A bit like Schrodinger's cat.

I needn't have worried, they were fine. But I had a scary hour or two unboxing, assembling footers and spikes, and walking them into position.

Worth it? Definitely. More 'sparkle' at the top end, smoother mids, deeper but faster more tuneful bass. All the usual hifi cliches present and correct Better in all the key areas than the outgoing speakers, but I wouldn't say the difference is 'night and day', more night and dawn. I suppose that's how it is with diminishing returns.

And that's it for a few more years, my next 'upgrade' will probably be my listening room. And maybe a hearing aid.

Used to have that one in about '91. No idea what happened to it, a lot of my albums went 'walkabout' around that time. I must have been hanging out with some dodgy folks.
