That's a tough one, but I guess the first album with Rick Wakeman - Fragile. If you don't like that, then probably no need to go any further. Although Drama with Trevor Horn is a very different sound, a bit more rock than prog, but they only did that one before the original band broke up. My knowledge ends there as I never bothered with them after that.

I've never knowingly listened to a Yes Album. What's a good hop on Album.

I thought the same, but just checked my server and i have Fragile and a "best of"! SO I guess if you can't beat 'em...

Horn did vocals on the Drama album and toured with them - Downes replaced Wakeman on keyboards.

I'm pleased to say that although I failed to explore early Yes until recently, I was on board for GFTO and Drama at the time. IIRC Drama wasn't well received, probably for narrow-minded reasons relating to the personnel, but I think it has undergone a reappraisal in recent years. I got the Kevin Gray remaster of it a few years ago and it's a banger, makes my original sound damp by comparison.

RW has a good reputation. A friend of mine found himself at the same lunch table (box at a football match) and said that he was naturally convivial.

Danny Baker tells a story about him as a pianist-for-hire earning his crust. Apparently RW got a call from Tony Visconti one day asking if he'd join a session for his usual fee (£20 I think). He turned up to find it was T Rex recording Get It On. When RW asked to see the score he found that there was no piano part on it. Visconti said they just wanted him to do that glissando at the start. £20 and on his way he went...

Good luck lads, I suspect Yes are not an easy band to access in 2026. If you are feeling really masochistic Tales from Topographic Oceans is arguably the original bands most divisive record, a double album with only 4 songs. I played it to death and loved everything about it. A gorgeous Roger Dean double album gatefold sleeve with one song on each side of the 2 LPs . . . what's not to like

I believe the below was their best selling record, certainly their most ambitious. I think the landscape was very different then, in those days you bought an album, put it on with your mates in a low light room and sat listening to the whole thing then discussed it after. Yes aren't a streaming playlist band, so very much of their time. For me they are a time machine. I've never tired of them and doubt I ever will . . a bit like Floyd.

I saw Yes play live in Salford, back in 1970 at the start of their career. Thought little of them at the time, and my impression hasn't changed with time.

Another classic electronica album I haven’t played in a while. The dog jumped out of his skin half way through the opening track when the beat kicked in! Maybe need to turn it down a notch…!
