Jalen Ngonda - Doctrine of Love (2026)
Second album picks up where 2023’s debut (Come Around And Love Me) left off as far as I can tell on first listen of today’s release. Motown inspired sounds in the vein of Marvin Gaye and Smokey Robinson to paraphrase Google AI. I enjoyed his first album, he’s undoubtedly talented, I just feel there’s something that for me doesn’t quite make him epic.

The album's six tracks range in length from eight to fifteen minutes but seem shorter and were recorded live in the studio, without any preparation; there was little editing afterwards. The winning results demonstrate that the musicians in this trio . . . Arooj Aftab on vocals (singing in Urdu), Vijay Iyer on piano and electronics and Shahzad Ismaily on bass and Moog synthesiser are strongly connected.
