I'm surprised K-Tel never released a "Best of Ronco"

The K-Tel records always looked like good vfm because you got so much music squeezed onto a single disc - probably not the best idea for sound quality, but to release them as double albums would have defeated their budget objective.

They followed on from the old "Top of the Pops" compilations, which didn't use original artists and were frankly dire, although the cover art was always something for dads and teenage boys... a sign of the times, like the Big D Peanuts displays you'd get in pubs where you'd find a scantily clad model lurking behind the bags

Yet another, Top 50 Album, for me.

Yes, it's an absolute belter - Ghosts has to be one of my favourite tracks ever. It always reminds me of baked beans, though... I shall explain!

I have great memories of playing it at a girl's house in the complete dark around 1986. We'll call her "Sophie" - well, because that was indeed her name. Aside from listening to music in the dark, Sophie always said she wanted to have sex in a bath full of baked beans.

This never happened - I mean, aside from the logistics of it, there's the cost - and I was an office junior at the time! How many tins of baked beans would it take to fill a bath? And then what the heck do you do with them afterwards, how do you get them out, a large spoon and a wheelbarrow?

Anyway, Sophie decided to kid all my friends that we had indeed "done it" in a bath full of baked beans... I am sure they didn't believe her, but I went along with the story, and as far as I know, they still think it happened!

We lost touch (not because of her baked bean fetish!) and it wasn't until a few years ago that she messaged me via social media as she had found a couple of photos of me from the time. She went on to become an RE Teacher, and is now a grandmother! I have no idea if her baked bean kink has ever been fulfilled, or if she moved on to Alphabetti Spaghetti or indeed any other of the 57 varieties!

Mike’s “To 50 albums” comment got me thinking - could I compile a top 50 list of albums? Not sure I could, but this one would almost certainly be in mine, I very much doubt it is anyone else’s cup of tea, though…

I will undoubtedly have posted this before, because I just find it incredible that a Norwegian teenager could have written this in her bedroom when English isn’t her first language, and she only picked up a guitar aged 15 and quickly started writing this album. Yes, definitely in my 50…. For now!
