I have to admit I really like the Thorens 124 DD, a very interesting revival but a bit out of my price range.

I suppose it has a brutish charm, but not really a looker imo. I know, it's how it sounds that really matters, but I need it to be easy on the eyes as well as the ears.

No comparison - pro or con?
Barry
Definitely pro EMT. He was quite clear about that. But it was more a passing comment, he didn't go on about it. If he had I would have taken more effort to pass on the link.

I just read some of that thread Steve, an interesting read. The subject of an LP12 always manages to ruffle feathers and over the years I've read far more negative than positive comments.
Post #43 sums it up for me, as that period was when I developed my love for music - back then all I could afford was a Pioneer PL-12D.
That's bang on, it's an object of desire and a bit of a lifestyle product."I think for anyone who discovered a love of music during the 70s / 80s the LP12 will always be an object of desire. I have never owned one and would like to even now even though I have owned TTs that I'm sure would eat it for breakfast. It's just a very nice thing".

Yes there's been an LP12 backlash for decades now, where the hifi "cognoscenti" viewed Sondek owners as naive and/or cloth eared. And they have been as contentious as cables I think.
Next time I see my neighbour over the garden fence I'll ask him about his experiences of dealing with Linn and selling Sondeks in the 70s. I'm sure he'll have a few tales to tell![]()

I think it shows a lot about the personality of a person who attacks someone else's preference. They can't understand why people love them but they are failing to recognise not everyone who enjoys music is searching for the holy grail, they like what they like for whatever personal reason. Everyone's holy grail is different anyway.
If I ever do buy one I think I might keep it to myself![]()
