I've encountered that with youngsters I've worked with. One was born in 1996, heavily into '80s music. Another born 2001 liked Otis Reading, Oasis and Dire Straits. Although think he'd got into them with his dad playing them. His dad was my age.

I had a work colleague who was about 15 years younger than me and who played guitar. We were both interested in music and would often talk about the music we liked and listened to. He once remarked that in his opinion I was very fortunate to be born when I was, as I had grown up during the best years for pop and rock. I replied I would have liked to have been born earlier, so I could have been a beatnik and listened to '50s jazz.

So I guess every generation either wishes they had been born earlier, or at least show a keen interest in the music their parents enjoyed.

Ah, sorry, name's on the back cover... Rosie Frater-Taylor, I know nothing about her, the album was a Christmas gift. Only the second time I've played it, very listenable, she's certainly a competent guitarist.

I think it clearly demonstrates the quality of the music we grew up with though, that Alex's daughter is appreciating artists from 20, 30, even 40 years before she was born. Alex, when your grandkids are growing up, do you think they'll be listening to the tosh that troubles today's charts? I doubt it.

That's why I said 'from a music standpoint.' No-one wants to be older than they are!

Although it would mean I'd be getting state pension so I'd be loaded

You have a good memory Tim! Indeed it was I who likened The Art of Sound forum to The Eagles 'Hotel California'. Can't remember why I quoted the line: it might have been because I was thinking of taking a break from the forum.

It is the nature of any forum that members will join, post frequently and then move on to pastures new. We have had many here do so for various reasons: some loose interest; some find new hobbies, whereas some feel their posts are either ignored or not taken seriously. But then some, like you, do return after a long term absence.
