Some people frown on 'Best of' collections, but I find them useful if I want to hear an artist or group, but can't make up my mind which stand-alone title to play. The trouble often is which is the best of the 'Best of's ?

Well if you are looking for a best of collection of Steely Dan, I can recommend:

It contains the track 'FM' which I think was mentioned by Pigmy Pony.

LTD - 'ReCOVER'

Picked this up in Oxfam for 50p. it is a collection of pop, rock and jazz covers by a duo consisting of Luca Fattori (vogal and tape loops) and Tiziano Zanotti (double bass and tape loops). Sad to say I found it disappointing: the jazz numbers degenerated into not very good 'scat' singing, and the double bass dominated all of the tracks.

So back to Oxfam it goes.

Thanks for that Barry. Many here regularly play Steely Dan Albums and I have never knowingly heard a track by them, so, this could be a very useful short cut to determine if I would like them.

For years I had a love/hate relationship with Steely Dan. Despite not knowing if I liked them or not, I continued to buy their LPs. Well a few years ago I decided I loved them after all!

The only artist with whom I had a volte-face experience was with Neil Young. Couldn't stand his thin, weedy voice, but upon listening to 'After The Gold Rush' that all changed. Crazy I know. Since then I have bought his albums going back and forward in time.

Amazon's review says it contains all the hits, but fails to include 'Haitian Divorce'... It seems like all their 'best ofs' are missing something or other. This one seems pretty comprehensive though, and only £6.85 off Music Magpie over on the Ebay:

I saw Wolf Alice do a couple of songs on Saturday Night Live a few weeks ago. Lead singer had some presence, and I liked the music, though I wasn't expecting to. I'd decided to look into their music some more, then forgot. So thanks for the reminder
