Asking my 10 year old daughter to cut the grass for 2.5 hours a week is pushing the boundaries.
My mower is 18 years old, so it is not going to last forever, and you still need a proper mower for the first cut of the year.

The size and geography of the terrain, will dictate the power and navigational sophistication of the robot mower to be used. Kevin hints that the robot mower he needs will be expensive, suggesting that the area to be cut/mown is large.
It could be that to press his children into mowing the grass for him, Kevin may have to pay/bribe them, collectively for more than the cost of the mower.![]()

I was doing it from age six. Although it wasn't a big lawn, about 25 foot by 25. No power mower though had to push it along, and rake up the cuttings since my father had got the mower for free off a neighbour but the collector had been lost.
I think I was about 14 before my old man sprung for a hover mower.
In the summer of '77 we killed all the grass playing football on it. My father was working overseas and my mother would not stop going on about how angry he would be when he got back. So I dug up the whole thing and re-seeded it. I was 8 years old.
My grandad came over and said 'The birds will eat all that seed' and showed me to make some bird scarers by putting aluminium foil on sticks and dotting them round the lawn. Showed me mind, didn't offer to help me do it. Lawn did mostly grow back in time.

Roughly 1.25 acres to mow.
I do the wooded area with a brush cutter.
The latest generation of mower have LiDar + cameras, so no longer need to rely on GPS.
I am looking at a Segway Navimow X450 - about €3k.

The problem of my daughter cutting the grass is that she is not heavy enough for the security device in the seat, so the blades don't turn and the motor cuts out.

Easy solved - a Bergen with some weights in it.
You have a ride on mower, they make grass cutting fun. Mate of mine bought a house with a huge garden probably half an acre. He was ecstatic that it gave him a reason to buy a ride on. If my dad had one when we were kids me and my brothers would have been fighting each other to get to use it.
I have to say I don't know anyone who's tried those robot mowers who rates it at all. Maybe they've got better recently.

The advantage of a robot mower is it cuts the grass when I take my three week holiday, and never complains.
If I do all of the grass (1.25 acres on the mower, a little less than 0.75 in the woods) I have about a full day of work ahead of me.

Wow - that's a lawn!
The garden of my parent's home was about half an acre in size, and really wasn't large enough to warrant the use of a lawn tractor. They used a Briggs & Straton petrol push mower. It took about a couple of hours to cut the grass. Towards the end a gardener was employed to do the job.

It is most definitely not a lawn.
More of a pasture in appearance. I don't have the time (or weather) to have a lawn.
