Nah - my father used to drive a V8 Daimler, dark blue with wire-wheels. It had the same appearence as the Mk.II Jaguar Morse drove. It had good performance and it certainly turned heads.

The Sweeney started out with Consuls, but later it was the similar looking but higher spec Granadas with bigger more powerful engines (2.5 V6 and 2.8i. I always thought those cars were pretty badass, but I could only stretch to a 1.6L Mk.5 Cortina.

When I was a kid, bloke across the road had a Morse-shape Jag. It was easily the nicest car on the street. And it looked huge, though when you're eight years old everything looks big, even Wagon Wheels.

Around that time my dad got a Jag - don't know what model, but it must have been pretty old, had 'running boards'. And I do remember him saying one time that he got 105mph out of it.

There weren't many safety consideration back then - one time when my dad was going round a corner, the passenger door flew open and spilled my younger brother onto the road (no seat belts back then). He just stopped, scooped up my brother and we continued our journey with my brother bawling his head off.

But weren't there Jags in the monochrome pictures used in the titles (along with dodgy 70s slip on shoes)? Did they never actually have them in the series?

It's a Consul chasing a Mk2 Jag in the series 1 and 2 titles (the titles change for series 3).

Sweeny always in Fords, villains always in Jags. Which they'd end up crashing on waste ground or into some corrugated metal fencing due to a completely unforced error.

I think London was pretty much built of corrugated metal in those days. Whoever supplied it must have made millions.

The villains in the series 3 titles were in a mk2 Escort estate I think, not much of a getaway car?
