I don't think Barry was too keen on the cover - not sure if that was because she looks like she needs a good wash or because she looks like she has three legs.

I think most likely Barry doesn't like a woman with a weapon in her lap. But I had never noticed how grubby she is before you pointed it out! Or the possibility of an extra leg! But glad you enjoyed the music!

"Professional Widow" is, as you'd pointed out not like the dance version doing the rounds back then, but no less enjoyable, just different. All in all, the album's a winner for me

Music-wise, pretty good, and how I expected it to be. Anita would hate her voice, good job she's out.

I disliked the cover because I thought she had tattooed legs and feet - I have a dislike of tattoos, especially on women. That's my hang up, but anyway I was wrong: on closer inspection I see she has dirty feet and legs; something which can easily put right. Not sure about the rifle though.

William Orbit - Pieces in a Modern Style (1995)



Follows on both thematically and in style. Back in 1999 I lost one of my best friends to sepsis and we had William Orbit's version of "Barber's Adagio for Strings" at the funeral - always makes this a tough listen and not played this one all the way through in many years. Lovely, though.

If you like William Orbit, you might want to check out "Spirit" by Caroline Lavelle. Sounds like it was produced by William Orbit, because it was.

Edit: I thought I'd give it a play, but the bloody thing's vanished Trouble with alphabetical filing, if it goes in the wrong place you're screwed.

That isn't dirt, they are tattoos - thought it might be the design on her tights but you can see it carries on to her knee, past where her tights end.

Probably the tats are just drawn on for the photo, although properly and not with a biro like we used to do at school.

You did put me onto that Caroline Lavelle album before, I think - I said I had never heard of her then realised she sings on some tracks by Sleepthief - an artist I love!

Well that's spooky, because of course "Star" is space themed, so Mazzy Star was my next choice! I will go for a different album, then, their debut -

The image is not clear enough for me to see one way or the other. Anyway aren't tights designed to cover the feet, go up the legs and end at the waist? Are there tights which have a pattern on the lower legs only and stopping at the knees?

Being a bit of an obsessive, I 'Googled' it, and all reviews of 'Boys for Pele' state that it is dirt on her legs on the cover photograph. The image is supposed to show Tori Amos as a 'dust bowl' period farmer; however to be accurate it should be a shotgun on her lap and not a rifle with a telescopic sight.
