I use 500g each beef/pork for a ragu, then that last about 4/5 days, break it down and quite a cheap meal individually, and around 200g protein in each serving (raw meat anyway). Mind you when you factor in good quality pasta, cheese, a bit of wine (for the ragu not to drink) it probably adds up, to be honest I don't pay too much attention to cost, I just like simple food.
200g? That's a bit optimistic. Beef is about 25% protein. So you have to consume the thick end of 2lb of lean beef to get 200g. Turkey has a higher protein content and is leaner. We used to use turkey a lot in cooking, diced turkey for curries and casseroles, sometimes turkey mince. Don't know why we stopped doing that.

I like to rely on the superfood groups - Bacon, and to a lesser extent, chocolate.

You missed beer. It's organic based, so counts as one of your five a day.

Yeh I may have my calculations wrong there, I can't imagine eating 800g of meat at a sitting!

I was having lunch with a friend in an Italian family-run restaurant. Not recognising anything on the menu, plumped for the risotto. When it arrived I realised my mistake - it had been (correctly) made using arborio rice, and I didn’t enjoy it.
You're not making it (risotto), you're just chucking a bit of mince in a pan with some rice, might as well say you're making chilli con carne or curry.

Since when has a risotto had chilli peppers in it, kidney beans or garum masala, fenugreek, tumeric for that matter. There is no law which says you have to use arborio rice. I prefer long grain rice, or if I want to be a bit more traditional, carnaroli rice.

You stick to your dirty grey mushroom omelettes, and I'll stick to my 'meta'-risottos.

Good point. So 2 cans is two of your five and a heavy Friday night session, that covers the whole week.

Wines a fruit too. So is brandy.
