Anyone keen on watches?

A couple of years ago I took my Mercedes key fob to Timpsons for a new battery fitted - guy there told me fitting it was a job for Mercedes Benz, and would likely cost about £70. Anita decided we're not havin' that, and after spending about 4 quid on a battery from Amazon, and a three-minute You Tube tutorial, she had it sorted.

She's definitely the brains of this outfit. I'm just the eye candy

I am considering a solar watch, and this one I can get at a good price, and it ticks most boxes for me looks-wise. Though I'm not sure about the super-thin hands.

Nice understated design appropriate for just about any occasion. Maybe better with a lighter coloured dial?

Apropos Timpsons - £66 is an obscene amount to charge to fit a battery which would only take 5 minutes and the battery itself cost around £5. I'm sure the unlimited supply and fit offer was only about £15: the trouble is I can't find the token Timpsons gave me.

I paid £3 last time, from the watch bloke down the market. Two years ago roughly.

He also adjusted the strap on my Armitron, wouldn't accept any payment for that.

You do have to put up with him criticising your choice of watch though. My mate reckons that's the only reason he has the stall.

Strong recommend for one of these watch repair kits,
Timpson quoted £20 to remove 2 links from a watch bracelet, got the kit for £17 and did it myself.

G Shocks are probably not a good example, it can be a pain to change the battery and they all seem different, Timpsons probably quote £66 to cover all eventualities and/or put you off taking your G Shock to them.

Maybe he doesn't need to. Maybe it just gets him out of the house, and he's not bothered about making money. Some old folk are like that, but they don't all want to work at the Oxfam shop

He at least has to cover the cost of renting the stall and keep a large stock of batteries?

Yeah, maybe he makes enough for the overheads but not much else. 3 quid for a battery fitted does sound cheap, but he probably gets them in bulk for a quid each or something.
