    Of course [emoji6].

I’m intrigued by how you’re supposed to pronounce ‘Rolex’ other than how everybody says it?

Surely it would be pronounced with a long 'O' (Ro-lex)? Otherwise it would need two L's.

Back in the 90s when I bought an amp from Musical Fidelity, I used to get frequent communications from them by post, which included a Christmas card every year, and regular newsletters promoting various products Including various designs of wristwatch. Some of the designs I thought were a bit 'out there', and I never bothered.

But now I'm thinking I may go for one, and it's a toss up between two of their more conventional looking efforts.

I'd like the watch to have a white face, but not sure about the numerals. So there is also this:

Quite like it, but again would prefer a white face:

What do you think Roy? Is the quality likely to be decent? Or just badge-engineered piles of crap?

How much they sell them for?

Found a used version of the white one on ebay for £250 odd and I think it's overpriced at that. Quartz rather than automatic and a sterling silver case (why?).

There are plenty of Seikos out there that are far better value for money.

    How about something like this?

All of the Mobile Fidelity watches are limited edition, originally to celebrate MF's 25th anniversary by their new owners in Austria. It seems the new owners have 'a thing' about quality watches: MF sold a set of headphones with "Vacheron Constantan" marked on the cups, and the case of the 25th anniversary watch was modeled on a design by Cartier.

Being limited edition items they sell for more than they should. Some sell for around £250, yet others only fetch £12 in auction.

As to who makes them for MF, well that's anyone's guess: not even MF employees know, though Seiko is a popular specification.

Me - I'm waiting for the QUAD 57 watch; a limited edition run of only 55 items. Sadly though, Quad now being own by a consortium based in Hong Kong, the movement is likely to be Chinese.

Or - People pay more than they should with the mistaken idea that being 'limited edition' they'll be worth much more in years to come

Those MF watches originally sold for about £80 new iirc, so no way would I have paid that much anyway. I'm not a fan of divers' watches or anything 'chunky'. But that one you linked to I do like, and Anita would be much happier buying me a new one than something old and with the potential to pack up tomorrow.

You've found me one I could live with there, I'd assumed they would be more expensive than that.

Rolex phased out the 'Cellini' range in 2022, leaving only one model in their catalogue. It is speculated that with an increasing interest in dress watches, Rolex may be pausing and will offer a new range of designs sometime soon.

Having had a look at the Cellini designs still available used, I agree that the very great majority of them come with black leather straps. But a very few had mesh-chain bracelets.

As to the correct pronunciation of Rolex, being based in Geneva, a francophone part of Switzerland, the name ought to be pronounced "row-licks", but no-one I know does so.
