HGV driver hours are strictly regulated and monitored, so I'm sure charging times could be easily incorporated, provided the charging infrastructure is there. And with their loads worth many thousands of pounds one or two additional hours going into the drivers' pay packets shouldn't make much difference to how much we pay for goods. Though of course it will.

If you were doing a run say Manchester to Birmingham you can go there and back and then take your break and charge up while the wagon is loaded again.
That's not all journeys but it is a lot of them. Maybe there will be some cost in driver down-time but that's offset by fuel savings and lower maintenance spend.

I was trying to find a youtube video where a company applied for an install to charge their intended fleet of electric artics- it was worked out that that one single installation would require more power than the entire town in which it was located..

Well I don't have a vested interest as such- I'm currently involved with the construction of three 400MW battery energy storage sites in Scotland, so I can appreciate the power supply problems as I work in the power industry. From what I can see, it's the production, storage and transport of hydrogen that are the major hurdles. It makes sense to me for the fact that ICE engines can be used with hydrogen, just needs a redesigned head- blocks can be used as they are. Plus refuelling times would be similar to ICE.

The Stinger is great and does what I was looking for- something that drives a bit smoother than the 535d M Sport, which could be a bit harsh at times over rough tarmac. On smooth tarmac it's great, but how much of that do we have in the UK..
The Stinger gives the best of both worlds, having active suspension I can have the smooth ride and also the firmer suspension in sport mode for the twisties. It's a fair bit faster too, and being back in a V6 petrol is nice, good as the beemer is, you can't beat a decent big petrol lump. Has tech up to the eyeballs too- loving the HUD.
