Last time I was in Curry's was 2007. I bought a telly. Sony. It's still going, gave it to a mate when I 'upgraded' - his son has it in his bedroom.

I bought a 32" widescreen Sony from Currys in about 2004. At the time they were about £800, this one was refurbed and cost us £280. Ran for years with no issues. It was massive, fortunately we had an Escort cabriolet and could chuck it in the back like you would with a skip.
I just dropped in, to see what condition my condition was in

T/T: Inspire Monarch, X200 tonearm, Ortofon Quintet Blue. Phono: Project Tube Box CD: Marantz CD6006 (UK Edition); Amp: Musical Fidelity A5 Integrated.
Speakers: KEF Reference 3, REL T9i subwoofer. Cables: Atlas Equator interconnects, Atlas Hyper 3.0 speaker cables

    T'other system:
Echo Dot, Arcam A75 integrated, Monitor Audio R852 MD speakers
    A/V:
LG OLED65 G56LS, Panasonic Blu Ray, Sony a/v amp, MA Radius speakers, REL T9i sub.

I had a 32'' Philips widescreen with built in amps for surround sound. Weighed as much as the moon. I gave it to one of the girls at work who had just moved house after divorce and had no money and no telly. When she switched it on for the first time it tripped the electrics. Oops. No modern circuit breaker at my place so I'd had no problem.

Last time I commented on electrical shenanigans I got shouted at. So I'll just say I hope she disconnected it from the mains and resolved the issue by employing a qualified electrician without delay

LOL. a lifetime guarantee with a bag!! I wonder what their profit margins are like? Like I said they seemed to have learned and no longer offer the accidential damage insurance, not on laptops anyway.

Curry's great, apart from the clueless assistants, similar to DIY stores, they seem to employ school leavers, they may as well employ dogs wondering around the store.

HMV are also staffed by clueless assistants, who only seem to know the price of any purchase; which of course is already marked on the item and contained within the barcode!

Yesterday I received notification of my car insurance which is due for renewal next month. I was shocked to see it had increased by nearly 30% over what I paid last year.

Some would probably grumble, shrug their shoulders and pay up. Not me! I know insurance companies exploite older members so as to offer attractive rates for new and younger customers, so I did what I always do and phoned the company to ask why the quote was so high.

I was given the usual sob story that costs of parts and labour had increased significantly. I was told the average increase across the board was 68%, with an unspoken hint that I should be grateful for my 29% increase! I was having none of that and politely asked if "something could be done about it" (with an unspoken hint that I could always go elsewhere).

I also thought it would be a good idea to increase my mileage cover. The person I was talking to was working from home and there was a problem with the computer system that would not allow her to update my details, but she would call me in the morning with a renewed quote.

Result - the new quote is almost £100 lower and has increased cover. Every time I get a new quote I have to go through the same rigmarole and with the same result: a cheaper revised quote.

Don't talk to me about car insurance companies. Have to deal with them at work. Their whole business model is about getting money for nothing.

Had to contact one this afternoon. No way to speak to anyone on the 'phone. You have to go on the chatbot which of course only knows the answers you already know. So you have to wait for a person to come on the chat. First one couldn't help so transfers me to another one. They all have unpronounceable names which tells you something.

All I wanted was an e-mail to send an invoice to and their business address to put on the invoice. That took half an hour and I still didn't get the address so I'll just put on whatever is on Companies House. I guarantee though they'll send the invoice back saying the address is wrong.

Sounds like it worked out in the end Barry, just a shame you have to go through all the faff though. Anita has absolutely no loyalty when it comes to renewing cover, and considers a few hours shopping elsewhere worthwhile when it means saving £100 or so.

I do find it annoying that they work this way - if they can afford to knock a hundred quid off they should do that in the first place. I'd be tempted to tell them to stick their new quote where the sun don't shine, but really these insurers are all the same.
