Another classic album from 1985 - and another great record!

What's the name of that hit single they did that has a bit in the middle that sounds like an elephant in distress? I really like that, and it made me think of buying whatever album it's on.

Not sure about Elephants…. But I think the track is Duel, which was used as the theme tune for the Lombard RAC Rally coverage back in the day.

A classic that, really grows on you. I've only got the vinyl - I must remember to get it on CD.

I ended up playing the 1988 follow up, From Langley Park to Memphis - another great album, though perhaps a bit more commercial, but only to be expected after their successful debut.

So first up this morning is the 1992 fourth album from this band. Although their first album hit the racks way back in 1984 Miss Adu and Co. have hardly been prolific with a total of only 6 studio albums in 40 years.

I have to admit that this is only my second album purchase despite being an enormous fan of the debut album Diamond Life, which I have on original release vinyl and the Millennium edition CD release.

The opening track here is of course the one with the only too familiar bass line, (even if you don't own the track) as it is still a regular tv and radio playlist choice.

My next choice may be device amongst devotees of the original version of this truly iconic live album.

This 25th Anniversary edition extends the track list over 2 cds rather than the single CD of the complete original double live LP. As for sound quality, well this version is certainly a little more "live" by which I perhaps mean, raw sounding, somehow less polished, than the original, which of course can't be the case as its the same master tapes ! I suspect that strangely, on CD, the original version is a little more "analogue" sounding !

Back in the day A&M had a enviable reputation for sound quality on thier albums, whether that be Herb Alpert and The Tijuana Brass, Chris de Burgh, The Carpenters, The Police, Quincy Jones, Supertramp, Susan Vega etc, etc, so I suspect CD releases of earlier albums, originally only on LP or Cassette, were treated with equal respect when reissued !

The additional tracks were chosen, produced and remixed by the man whose surname adorns the Album cover, proudly proclaiming "Frampton Comes Alive!".

Classic breakbeat from the English duo.

True story. In 1999 I went on holiday with my then wife and the in laws To California in the good old US of A. Writeable CDs were a relatively new thing, and I decided to make a compilation CD of songs that featured California in the title, so California Dreamin’ by The Mamas & The Papas, Californication by the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Californie by Air - you get the picture. Well, track number 1 was Take California, the first track on this Propellerheads album.

We collected the full-size Buick from the Rental company, and I proudly announced that I had made a California road trip CD, duly inserted into the CD player, and then Take California exploded out of the speakers at what can only be described as eardrum rupturing levels. My father in law nearly had a heart attack, my mother in law (probably) pissed herself and my ex-wife screamed at me and my CD was banned for the rest of the trip. The beginning of the end.
