Did another boot sale this morning and made almost as much profit as last Sunday. I'm often surprised by the buyers who want something for almost nothing. Today it was someone who drove an expensive BMW 4x4, yet quibbled over a toddler's tricycle for which we were asking £4.
He probably just put new tyres on it and was feeling the pinch a bit.

These people don't get to afford BMWs by paying £4 for their toddler tricycles.

Mrs. P is good at haggling, does it all the time. I just get embarrassed and move away while she chips away at the price. I've never haggled in my life - I'd be so bad at it I'd end up paying more than the original price

Reminds me of the closest I ever came to haggling, it was at a Turkish market. I saw this leather belt with a Harley Davidson buckle, and thought it might be a nice gift for my Harley-riding mate.

But after picking it up and handling it I changed my mind. The seller saw this and told me the price was 60 lira. I'd known this mate since I was 14, but no way was he worth that. So I moved away. The trader snatched up the belt and followed me through the market, incrementally decreasing the asking price while I repeatedly told him I wasn't interested. Eventually, with his stall a distant speck on the horizon, I paid him 5 lira, just to be rid of him.

Even though it was a genuine fake, it was still leather and probably cost less than a quid.

He didn't haggle, just turned it down. So no sale. The trike was easily worth double - his loss. But no problem - it will be sold another day.

My partner is very good at haggling, whereas I'm hopeless at it: if I'm happy with the asking price, that is what I will pay, regardless of whether it's a bargain or not.

Brightened up now after a grey start, 16c and set to get a couple of degrees warmer with no rain forecast.
