    okay - problem solved, I turned the temp on it to max coldness and it has now kicked in so it's not broken after all.

    Can go to the supermarket now - ofc it's picked this moment to start raining...

    the one i settled on was a liebherr; highly rated and big inside(149 litres) for the same basic size. its quiet and just works. Annual energy cost - £18.33 so thats also worth considering. but downside was it was nearly 300 notes. still, it will almost certainly be my last one. they are made in same factory as meile apparently

    I'll make a note - I don't need anything like that size though. £300 isn't much for a fridge - I paid that for one 25 years ago

    Right - I misread that as 249 litres!

    If I had the space I'd have one of those Yank ones with the ice maker. A mate has one but his kitchen is the size of my whole ground floor. And it still looks big.

    Although I think some of it is a freezer.

    yes my daughter has a giant yanky fridge. 2 side by side doors; or is it 4? ...its got an ice maker on front etc. and when you go, you can be buried in it
