Although the USB input is used to power the DAC it does not contribute any significant noise. This DAC is very well designed and gone are the days when the USB input resulted in lots of noise pollution. ASR have run tests on this and it shows excellent results concerning noise and distortion when using USB input. No need for galvanic isolation here or proprietary USB input technology.

However in real terms I believe the USB input is very slightly more noisy than Coax and Toslink.

    Thanks.

So we're I to try one out as an external DAC for a CDT, I would need a 5v power supply with a USB plug?

Yes that is all you will need. I have used it with a CDP with this set up and It works well.

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

Yes just a coax cable from CDP or CDT to DAC.

The amount of plugs and connectors I have had to find to use with my LPS is ridiculous as everything I plug it into has a different plug socket. Luckily eBay and amazon are your friend and almost any combination can be found. Latest plug adapter I had to find was a Type C USB Male to DC 5.5x2.1mm Female Connector Charge Barrel Jack Power Adapter Type C USB 5V Connector for Type C USB Charging Device

It's not just digital and computer audio.
With my purely analogue system, I have at times needed to use the following connectors:

    1/4" Jack plugs
    XLR connectors
    DIN connectors
    RCA 'phono' connectors
    and
    CAMAC connectors.

That is why I make up my own leads.

Drives me nuts. Every time I buy a device it needs a different connection!

Yes I have several mobile phone chargers, but I would still need an adapter to a USB type plug. Do such things exist?
