It was a fun movie. Not sure I'd rate it above Predator though .

yeah, me too but predator didnt fair any better with the so called critics... From contemporary reviews, Janet Maslin of The New York Times described the film as "grisly and dull, with few surprises." Dean Lamanna wrote in Cinefantastique that "the militarized monster movie tires under its own derivative weight." Michael Wilmington of the Los Angeles Times proclaimed it "arguably one of the emptiest, feeblest, most derivative scripts ever made as a major studio movie." Variety wrote that the film was a "slightly above-average actioner that tries to compensate for tissue-thin-plot with ever-more-grisly death sequences and impressive special effects." Adam Barker of The Monthly Film Bulletin found that "unfortunately, special effects have also been substituted for suspense" and that "the early appearance of the Predator makes the final gladiatorial conflict predictable, and the monster's multiple transformations also exhaust interest in its final appearance."

Arthur Lowe had a clause written into his contract which stated that he would never appear without his trousers on. This is why Sgt. Wilson is leading the platoon during the platoon's changeover march (when the platoon change from civvies to uniform via their long-johns) instead of Captain Mainwaring. (Incidentally, this is also the reason why Jones gets the grenade down the trousers in the U Boat crew episode - it was originally going to be Captain Mainwaring).

think he was a bit pompous and serious . he played all his comedy roles straight, and were often actually oft written to cross over on his own personality. he was qquite a bloke although had right wing attitudes that folk like Clive Dunn thought outrageous. He was in fact also an excellent horseman

After the popular and critical success of two British anthology films based on the W. Somerset Maugham short stories Quartet (1948) and Trio (1950), with different casts and crews for each episode, 20th Century-Fox felt that the time was right for an American version of this format.

Three Days of the Condor, 1975.. Higgins' office is based at the World Trade Center. Cliff Robertson, who played Higgins, is a keen aviator, and was flying a private Beechcraft Baron over New York City on the morning of September 11, 2001. He was directly above the World Trade Center, climbing through 7,500 feet when the first Boeing 767 struck. Air traffic control instructed him to land immediately at the nearest airport, after a nationwide order to ground all civilian and commercial aircraft following the attacks.

Redford again with... Jeremiah Johnston, 1972...





Based upon a real-life trapper named John Johnston, nicknamed "Crow Killer" and "Liver Eater Johnston" for his penchant for cutting out and eating the livers of Crow Indians he had killed (several Crows had murdered his wife and he swore vengeance against the entire tribe).

Trapper John Johnston's body was buried in the Veterans Administration cemetery in Los Angeles, CA. After the movie came out, Johnston's body was reburied at Old Trail Town in Cody, WY. Robert Redford was a pallbearer in the reburial ceremony attended by 2,000 people.

Many of the locations for the film were shot on or near Robert Redford's property in Utah (he owned approximately 600 acres there at the time), although some locations were as much as 600 miles away.

Philip Kaufman started to direct this movie, but was replaced by Clint Eastwood on October 24, 1975, which was a controversial move that prompted the Directors' Guild of America (D.G.A.) to institute a ban on any current cast or crew member replacing the director on a movie: a rule which has ever since been titled the "Eastwood rule." Part of the acrimony between Eastwood and Kaufman was a result of both men asking female lead Sondra Locke (who was still married to Gordon Anderson) out to dinner on the same night. Several members of the cast and crew were unhappy with Eastwood, and felt that Kaufman had done a lot of the work for which Eastwood later took credit. According to them, it was Kaufman who had chosen the locations, the costumes, and who had cast Chief Dan George, after seeing him in Little Big Man (1970).

The Gatling guns shown during the massacre of the surrendering confederates are not Civil War-period versions of that weapon. The Model 1861 Gatling was a .58 caliber weapon firing from individually-loaded brass or steel chambers, which were fed into the receiver via a hopper or chute attached to the side of the gun's housing. As a result, the gun's rate of fire was significantly slower than is shown in in the film. The guns shown in the movie were models of 1867 or later, which were chambered for fixed ammunition, usually 45/70 and fed through a stick magazine on the top of the weapon's receiver.
