Can't decide whether it's a mildly amusing film staring the ever inventive Johnny Depp, or a genuinely brilliant film.

Whatever, it's a film I would watch again and again.

    The Limehouse Golem, 2016.... bluray...

...A golem is a creature formed out of a lifeless substance such as dust or earth that is brought to life by ritual incantations and sequences of Hebrew letters. The golem, brought into being by a human creator, becomes a helper, a companion, or a rescuer of an imperiled Jewish community.

The role portrayed by Bill Nighy was initially given to Alan Rickman, but the latter had to pull out of the project due to ill-health, which eventually led to his untimely death from pancreatic cancer in January 2016. At the end of the end credits, the following dedication appears on the screen: "This film is dedicated to the memory of Alan Rickman".

Though the film is based on a work of fiction, three of the readers in the library, all of them suspects in the golem case, are real people who did at the time live in London: Karl Marx, George Gissing and Dan Leno.

Director Juan Carlos Medina hired the cinematographer Simon Dennis and the production designer Grant Montgomery because he was very impressed by their work on Peaky Blinders (2013).

Looks interesting - any good? I like Bill Nighy and agree he would be a fine stand in for late lamented Alan Rickman.

    Heaven Knows, Mr. Allison, 1957...

The director and the explosives expert were reportedly left hanging onto an elevated platform on location - uninjured - after a short-circuit in explosives-effect wiring unexpectedly set off all of some 30 planted detonation devices at the same time.

    Groundhog Day, 1993..

Bill Murray was bitten by the groundhog twice during shooting. Murray had to have anti rabies injections, because the bites were so severe. (snigger)

According to Director Harold Ramis, most of the time, when he tried to explain a scene to Bill Murray, Murray would interrupt and ask, "Just tell me - good Phil or bad Phil?"

Danny Rubin, the creator of the original screenplay for Groundhog Day, had mixed feelings of the final movie. "It's a great movie, and it has made my life a lot easier in many ways. However, I quickly learned that working as a writer in Hollywood, you have to compromise in order for your work to be produced. The fact that Harold Ramis had interest and took the time to edit and polish the script so it got made, plus help with finding funding, as well as directing the movie, I'm very grateful for all of that. At the same time, when I watch the movie, I see more comedy than what I intended, more of a romantic story than was ever in my script, many of the darker elements toned down. Something feels off when you watch something you created and there are things you don't remember in your vision and now they are there. Again, I don't want to come off ungrateful. I understand the odds of getting a movie made from a spec script are similar to winning the jackpot in the lottery. Thanks to Harold Ramis taking an interest in the script, I now live a comfortable life where money is never a worry. The movie just didn't turn out fully how I envisioned, and that's something I'm going to have to live with for the rest of my life."
