I understand that it is a different brew to that produced in Ireland or England - more hops and higher alcohol content, so will taste quite different.
Mind you i remember drinking Guinness in Dublin many years ago (went to see U2, Simpleminds, Eurythmics etc at Phoenix park 1983) and far preferred the Dublin brewed version to the UK one. Someone told me that it was smoother because it was brewed in Oak, others have said that is bollocks - never mind, it was definitely better

My partner is African, so is used to the stronger Guinness brewed in Nigeria. When in this country (the UK), she will always prefer the bottled Guinness brewed in Africa over locally brewed versions.
I believe the different taste is more down to the water used rather than anything else.
I wish I liked Guinness: it's a lovely looking pint, but I find it too dry for my taste. Pity!
