Tell Me Something............Anything!

I like celery, but sometimes it can be 'stringy' which you can't tell till you eat it, and by then it's too late.

just use a veg peeler on outside of it. removes any stringy bits and only takes a minute

I don't use fennel that often but what my local greengrocer sells perfectly acceptable - I buy it for its aniseed flavour.

As for onions, I only buy red onions, which are 'sweeter' than white ones.

Red onions are just wrong. Unlike with mayonnaise where you need eyes in your arse to avoid buying food without any, You can get caught out. It's as though folk don't realise that for some just the smell of red onions can bring on projectile vomiting.

I once bought a large pizza from a takeaway, and told them "NO onions!" Got home to find it covered in red onions Maybe he thought they didn't count. So, a three mile drive back there. The bloke suggested I could just scrape them off. I felt like telling him I could stab him multiple times then just mop up the blood afterwards and he'll be fine. But I didn't, I just shouted a bit.

I could dwell on what "additional" toppings he may have put on it while I wasn't looking, but whatever it was would still be preferable to red onions.

These days I tell folk I have an allergy, that does the trick.

Do you remember caraway seeds? Disgusting tasting things that were used in food, yuk!

depends on what your using them for but i prefer them to brown/yellow ones. sweet shallots are really nice

Never thought of that - possibly because it's only in the last few years have I noticed stringy celery. I'm sure it never used to be like that.

What about mushrooms - do you have preference?

I prefer chestnut mushrooms over the usual white variety. Not interested in the shigatse (?) variety, or the big horse mushrooms.

I have tried truffles but couldn't see what the fuss was about and certainly nothing to justify the price

I have no idea what you're talking about - was it some sort of TV endurance challenge?

My favourite customer (who always sends me away with a few of his chickens' eggs) gave me half a dozen today, which he put in a closing carton which would not close. Nowhere near. I pity the poor chickens that had to push them out.

Also gave me some tomatoes including some interesting-looking 'tiger' tomatoes. Never heard of them, but I'm sure they'll be very nice.
