Dreams are simply the interruption of the brain's transfer of information from the short term memory (most of it trivial and unimportant) to the long term memory, filtering out the trivia.

That is why dreams, which may appear significant to you, when related to second party have no interest to them.
So let me get this right: will the information you have just imparted transfer from my short term memory to my long term memory when I go to sleep tonight? And if I don't dream about what you posted, does this mean I see it as important?

Did I perhaps harbour a wish to be a good skateboarder, but with my brain saying "Yeah, in your dreams" that wish didn't make it to my long term memory? That could explain why I don't recall having any interest in skateboarding...

Dreams are our brains tuning in to alternate dimensions/realities where you happen to be a world class skateboarder and perfectly capable of competing in slaloms without skis.

Cheers Guy, I prefer your explanation, makes my brain hurt less

Barry - I take your point about recounted dreams being boring to others, I know this from having heard others recount theirs. So I'll just go back to reporting on the weather in Chorley, because that's what everyone wants to read about

I think it might have rained a bit last night, because the grass is wet. Though it could just be dew Currently 12C.

Information filtration and transfer occurs during the REM period of your sleep. It is only if this process is interrupted do you 'dream'.

Dreams are not important; there is no point in trying to remember them, let alone "interpret" them.
I don't believe dreams are our joining some sort of universal consciousness, or some alternative reality or dimension.

What you eat can affect dreams. Some cheeses apparently influence this, as can mushrooms (they can contain trace amounts of hallucinogens). Medications and herbal 'remedies' may have some effect on dreaming (don't try Skullcap). So can booze.

Similar here - for me the dream involves me being embarrassed by having to urinate/have a dump somewhere public with lots of onlookers.
Only started to get these dreams in my sixties, the trials of aging

skateboarding? i'd think your age is on back of your mind and you don't like it much

Last night I had another of a recurring dream (3 or 4 times this year) where I am really good at skateboarding. A psychiatrist would probably say it's a midlife (or more likely late in life) crisis. I'd go along with that if it was something I regret letting passing me by, like surfing or learning to play piano, but skateboarding? Not on your nelly.

Had that one last night - at a party at my parent's house, desperate for a slash, big queue for the bathroom. Walked out onto the street thinking I would use one of the neighbour's bathrooms, but there was nothing except industrial dereliction in either direction.

Realised I was only wearing boxer shorts and my school blazer. Went back inside, went in the kitchen where an aunt and one of my brothers were doing the dishes.

    Woke up absolutely bursting.
