Robinson Crusoe, 1997...




Filmed in 1994, copyrighted in 1996 and released overseas in 1997. Never released theatrically in the U.S., nor in the UK. The day before production started on this film, June 8, 1994, Pierce Brosnan was being introduced to the press as the new James Bond at the Regent Hotel in London. He was already sporting his Robinson Crusoe beard.

The real Robinson Crusoe Island (which this is based off) is not known to have ever been inhabited by any Aboriginal races, unlike with most other Pacific Islands. This film places the island near New Guinea, and as such the native characters are depicted as having black skin, which is typical of islanders from around that area. The real Robinson Crusoe Island is much closer to Polynesia's Easter Island, whose natives have lighter skin than the ones depicted in this film.

Small Time Crooks, 2000. it stars Woody Allen(who also wrote it), Hugh Grant, Elaine May and Tracey Ullman.

Ullman was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress – Motion Picture Musical or Comedy for her performance, and Elaine May won Best Supporting Actress at the National Society of Film Critics Awards for her performance.

Both MacLaine and Eastwood are still alive...89 and 93...

Shirley MacLaine gets top billing in the credits (both opening and closing). This was the last time Clint Eastwood received second billing - or anything less than first - until A Perfect World (1993), and the only time his leading lady was played by an A-list star until The Bridges of Madison County (1995).

Shirley MacLaine did not get along during the shoot with anyone; especially Segal and Eastwood. It's rather conspicuous that in her many volumes of memoirs, Shirley MacLaine says virtually nothing about co-starring with Clint Eastwood. When Shirley discussed her career in a two-part interview on The Oprah Winfrey Show (1986) in 2011, Clint's name did not come up once.

The release of this film in 1970 marked the first occasion in 22 years that blacklisted screenwriter Albert Maltz had been given screen credit under his own name.

Operation Petticoat, 1959..




In the film the submarine is on a constant quest to reach a submarine repair ship to restore her operational status again. In real life Tony Curtis served on the submarine repair ship USS Proteus during WW2. It was alleged his enlistment in the Pacific Submarine Force was inspired by the film Destination Tokyo (1943), starring Cary Grant.

The "sinking" of a truck was inspired by a real incident that happened in 1944. On August 9, USS Bowfin (SS-287) followed four Japanese ships into Minami Daito Harbor. She fired her six bow torpedoes at the moored ships, hitting three and sinking two of them, but one torpedo went astray and hit a pier. A bus parked on it was blown up and thrown into the water by the explosion.

a farce it was meant to be and a farce it is, although possibly the wrong kind of farce. Might of made a decent film if it had been played differently with a director who knew how to. Silvio Narizzano for me got this wrong....
