You'd think so - I mean there's a Morris Marina owner's club so crappiness is not a barrier per se. But I've never seen any Amstrad love on any forum.

Had a pair of their speakers, left here by a mate who lodged with me for a few months, along with a load of faulty CRT monitors. Must have been stored in a garage or shed at one point as mice had nibbled at the corners.

Three ways, with the shiny dustcaps ofc. I used them as the surrounds for my dolby pro logic system for a while during my poverty era. I sealed up the mouse holes with blu-tak.

I remember going into Comet in the 80s and looking at Amstrad gear with amusement and would open the tape deck door mechanism and lift the lid on the odd turntable to gauge the quality. Sometimes the cassette door didn't open. Enough said!

IIRC you could do worse than Amstrad back in the 1980s. Binatone and Saisho made some right junk that was even cheaper than Amstrad.

Listening to the system tonight and the midrange sounds turbo charged. Very full and lush. Bass is also deeper and more extended. The only difference I can think of is the warm weather has all the components sitting at 210C optimal temperature. I can almost lean into the recording as the depth is more apparent and everything seems to have a transparent ethereal quality.

When anyone mentions analogue warmth. This is it!

210 degrees Celsius?!!!

But otherwise speaker and cartridge compliance will increase with temperature, which may account for your findings.

Myself, I have never found much variation in the performance of my system, regardless of temperature, time of day, etc.

funny, I had a session earlier today and thought the sound was a bit different, maybe slightly brighter and with a bit more impact. Not better but marginally different.

I too thought about the heat but then remembered that there had been a big pile of clothing and towels immediately to the left of my chair, which had been there for weeks and which I had cleared away since my last session...

Yes the system would be melting at that temp!
