car boot these days is 80% traders, 20% crap. Ok if you're in the market for a phone charger or a giant pack of bog rolls.

I totally agree ..................and traders = f3k1n rip off, especially when it comes to vinyls, CD's etc!!!!!!

I was talking to this Irish bloke at the car boot, who has just opened a record shop in Preston - he told me he got there at 6.30am, saw this bloke selling off his collection, all price-stickered, and bought the lot for £600. Told me he was going to leave the stickers on and sell them at that price. I bet he doesn't though, more likely he'll bung another 100% on the price and play the long game with them.

We call these people vultures - I've done bootys before, and these traders are all over your stuff before you can even get it out of the car. I will not buy from them on principle.

indeed... not really fair but folk get tempted especially these days. ive a few hundred to sell still but im not able to post them off to folk now so they are just sitting upstairs, hopefully increasing in value

Well there's no sign of record prices getting any cheaper, but the ideal would probably be for someone you know and trust to sell them on your behalf. But selling individually is a faff, and selling wholesale will not anywhere near realise their full value. I really don't know what the answer is, and I have thought about it.

I have no plans to flog mine, that'll be a job for my next of kin. But no one in my family has the first clue about values, so some greedy barstool will get a bargain.

Anyway, this is a subject that just depresses me, so back to 'spinning today', with this:

Well there's no sign of record prices getting any cheaper, but the ideal would probably be for someone you know and trust to sell them on your behalf. But selling individually is a faff, and selling wholesale will not anywhere near realise their full value. I really don't know what the answer is, and I have thought about it.

there are a few i might keep as keepsakes, but most will go someday. as you say the majority will be sold to whoever i guess.. if your ever up this way you can lol... a lot are not worth a lot although rare

Maybe you should list what you have available , collection only, some of us might fancy a wee drive over.

Sometime ago Grant, you listed the records you were willing to sell. I have that list somewhere, but I can't find it.

Should you want to sell your Blues LPs, I would be interested. Collection would be a problem though.

Depends on the venue - our nearest Sunday bootsale, opens to buyers at 10:00, and that applies to private and trade sellers, as well as to the general public. It is quite well 'policed'.

I will only buy LPs of Classical music from private sellers - for two reasons: they are usually in very good condition, and traders are not interested in them.

I find traders, in the main, to be arrogant 845t4rds, they only care about how much they prize out of you and have little interest in the items that they sell other than their value and, they view most people as just targets for money; if you try and barter with them, you get the feeling that they think of you as an irritating tight fisted pain in the 4r5e!!!! My attitude in a nutshell is...... 4Q AND UR STUFF FOR SALE!!! Like others have said previously, I just dont bother with them.

Grant, I should be coming up to Scotland in a few weeks, and I'm sure I can persuade Anita that Edinburgh would be nice for a short stay... "Oh, while we're up here can we just visit my forum buddy Grant?" (that's what she calls you all, my forum buddies)

And if you had enough interest in some of your vinyl (like Barry for instance) I'd be happy to collect them and post them off myself. But as I said, it would be quite a few weeks off.
