Anyone keen on watches?

My Rolex was bought from Mappin & Webb, and I take it to be serviced there. Last time I looked the velvet cloth looked to be thick enough to break a fall from wrist to the counter top. If any watch was damaged by such a fall, it doesn't say much about the watch. I would imagine all Rolexes are sufficiently shock proof.

But to be fair, I have never seen anyone try on a Rolex, so maybe a cushion is used on those occasions.


I too have tested a lens outside a photographic shop, and whilst expensive (an f/4.8, 280mm telephoto) it cost was less than my camera to which it was attached (a Leica M3/M4).

Bought my Explorer 2 from Goldsmith’s and can confirm that a great deal of care was taken whilst I tried the watch on etc. ( it was destickered before purchase, I’ve heard that ALL the stickers need to be returned to Rolex). I’m sure similar care was taken when I got my Sub but at the time I was so excited to find one available retail I almost took the salesperson’s hand off. Did try a second hand Daytona on at Watchfinder’s and in this instance had to show id before they let me try it on.

That's because they have dials that are too 'busy' and cluttered. Garry's watch is plain and clear: there is no need in everyday life for a tachyometer facility (or whatever it is on the bezel of the first watch shown ).
