That's the beauty of this forum James, always an education... If you went into Sevenoaks or Peter Tyson's and steered the conversation towards the official flag of the Japanese armed forces, they'd look at you like you weren't right in the head But here it's perfectly normal

Yes he is a big covert to room treatment and rightly so. It really is not worth spending loads of cash on your system if you don't do anything to the room as you will not be getting the best out of your gear. I think he said he would rather listen to cheaper end kit in a well treated room rather than hi end stuff in an untreated room.

For all the messing around audiophiles do with their systems trying to make them sound great in their own room they could spend far less on some room treatment and get much bigger results and SQ improvement.

My next panel will be costing me only £30 and it is 75cm x 50cm and 4-6cm deep. OK I will need more but I recon I will not spend more than £200 total on all the panels I will need. I should imagine the difference to the acoustics in the room finally will be significant and far more rewarding than a £200 cable?

Of course you may have tailored your system perfectly to your room and too your liking without room treatment in which case I commend the effort. One point I think that needs to be made is that when you start going down this path your system will sound quite different. Whether that is revealing the true nature of your equipment and suppressing the room involvement....I think so. Invariably I think most equipment sounds too bright in an untreated room and as I have discovered brightness does not equate to detail as I am getting both greater clarity and more detail as I add treatment to the room. I should say the detail is more precise and easier to ascertain.

All good fun and I must say I have been enjoying this avenue rather more than trying very expensive items, realising I don't like them and then having to sell them on at a loss!

He's come some distance from when he was putting granite coasters on top of DACs.

Although I suspect he still thinks that works.
