I was watching a programme the other day on the Nuremberg war trials. I was intrigued by the arrangement that the prosecutor setup for simultaneous translation through headphones. Initially, I thought the headphones looked a lot like Grado designs, until I realised that the company was not formed until the 1950s. To cut a long story short, the headphones were manufactured by IBM. I was not aware that they made headphones, but of course, given that they were involved in office management systems they probably had various transcription products. My guess now is that Grado borrowed from the IBM design. Does anyone have experience of IBM headphones or any knowledge of whether Grado borrowed from IBM?

In the meantime, here is an interesting link on the subject.

They provided 600 headsets, each with 5 channels. The system was later sold to the UN.

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

Looks more like PMC with a dome midrange but I don't recognise the straight edge of the woofer and never seen that finish. Also looks like a port just showing at the bottom

I don't recognise it, but it is reminiscent of PMC and the cut off woofer edges are something Epos used a fair bit (amongst others).
It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!

If it was PMC it wouldn't have a round port, it would have an oblong opening at the bottom of the cabinet for the transmission line.

The Crusader's port looks to be a bit smaller and closer to the woofer than that. Drive units look similar though.
