dilemma in the supermarket - two tills open, no queue, the two people being served currently are almost finished.

Choice of going to the one with large middle-age woman wearing DPM and a bush hat who still has several cartons of bottled water to be scanned, or young bloke buying two ladies dresses.

Went for the one with the young bloke - mistake. He take forever asking idiot questions and then decides he wants to buy a carrier bag and have the woman bag the dresses up for him. Why do so many people find it so hard just to pay and go?

What kinds of questions? The label inside the neck says 10, does this mean it's a size 10? or Does this look green to you? or Does it come with shoulder pads?

A bloke has no business buying women's clothes that aren't for himself. Unless his lady has sent him to pick them up for her, in which case he should have all the information he needs. If on the other hand it is a surprise gift, he needs to have a word with himself, that is potentially like getting into the bath with a toaster.

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

    What is DPM?

When it come to clothes for my partner - she chooses, I pay. It seems an equitable division of labour.

I hope the eating of waffles is more enjoyable than the getting of them.

he wanted to know about the sizes, and if he could bring them back.

As you say no man has ever successfully chosen clothing for a woman. I was tempted to point that out to him but thought it might just prolong the agony.

Of course checkout woman was happy to talk about clothes all day to him.

well that blip aside it was textbook really.

Wait until the next time I am stuck behind fat middle age woman who works for the Council. If her phone rings whilst packing she will stop to answer it and she won't be in any hurry to wind up the call.

That's the closest I have come in my life to going on a killing spree.
