Yes, a friend had the active 100. They were very fine speakers, but I could always hear the big pulp cone slightly adding its character to the sound.
It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!

I looked at a load of options including boutique stuff up to the three grand area (second hand).

Eventually it came down to a toss up between this and the Topping pre-amp at about half the price. In the end decided I'd go for this.

I like to have a proper rotary volume control rather than push-button remote; the casework, sockets, wiring, potentiometer and everything else in it are all the best possible and, ultimately, I'd rather give my business to a mate.

there can be a lot of money in valve pre's. Oli has been making them for a while so any bugs should be well out of them.

Not valve. Solid state buffer, zero gain.

Is it a variation on the DCB1 I know Olly and Alan spent a long time researching and building those?

The 3.3's with their 12" woofers obviously go a little deeper. Both can be purchased for a lot less, and definitely weigh a lot less. The 3.3's will give those Focal JM Labs Utopia's a hard run for their money.
I had the 2.5is in a 5 channel system for years, some narrow NHT towers at the rear and an NHT centre (or "center") speaker in the middle.

Looking back it was one of the best sounding systems I've had, the 2.5is were stunning playing very quiet in nearfield late at night, it was like the performers were live but scaled down between the speakers.
